Angus bus tour offers play hints for parents

A special bus with lots of fun activities aimed at parents of children under three will visit Angus this month.

The Scottish Government-funded bus, which will be in Montrose next Wednesday and Thursday as part of a county-wide tour, demonstrates simple and free ways for parents to interact with their child during the early years and on board will be plenty of free or low cost activities for parents to try out and do at home with their youngsters.

Activities will include Play@Home sessions, offering fun free play ideas while the Scottish Book Trust’s BookBug sessions aim to support parents in giving their children a life-long love of reading, with storytelling, rhymes and songs on the bus and lots of free ideas to try out at home.

Aileen Campbell, minister for children and young people, said: “The first three years in a child’s life are critical to their development.

“Many of society’s big issues can be traced back to childhood and the PlayTalkRead roadshow is part of the Scottish Government’s commitment to early support for parents.”

The bus will be at the Links Health Centre next Wednesday, August 22 and at the Piazza on the High Street on Thursday, August 23. Details are available online at www.playtalkread.org.
