Birthday honour for deputy chief

GRAMPIAN Police Deputy Chief Constable Colin Menzies has been awarded The Queen’s Police Medal in this year’s Birthday Honours list.
A former Montrose Academy pupil, Mr Menzies was born in Dundee and joined the force in 1982, serving all his career in uniform in the North East.
He served initially as a constable in Aberdeen city centre and has risen through the ranks to his current role. He is perhaps best known for his work in road casualty reduction and the introduction of young driver training in Grampian as well as supporting the continuing development of the Special Constabulary in Scotland.
Alongside his duties he has participated locally and nationally in sport, notably in basketball, cycling and football and supported local causes through his role as a trustee of the Diced Cap Charitable Trust.
Mr Menzies is a graduate of the UK Strategic Command Course, where he has also served as a Syndicate Director, and holds an MSc in Police Leadership and Management which he uses to support the development of others inside and outside the police service.
Last year Mr Menzies was also accepted as a Burgess of the City of Aberdeen.
He said: “I am grateful to those who nominated me and regard this recognition is very much one for the whole force. It is a further endorsement of the professional, personalised local policing that we provide here in the North East.”
