Care and Repair’s energy tariff check

ANGUS Care and Repair has expanded its services and now provides an energy tariff check for people in Angus.

Training was provided by Angus Council’s trading standards service and has been set up as, not having internet access, many members of care and repair’s client group find it difficult to access information regarding tariff changes.

Manager Judith Leslie said that many older and disabled people can benefit from investigating possible savings.

She said: “From our experience speaking with older people’s groups it does appear that older householders are less likely to have changed their energy providers.

“In addition it is often our older and disabled householders who spend more of their time in their home and therefore need affordable warmth. We would like to encourage our client group to come to us to investigate possible savings.

“This is completely confidential and there is no push to make a decision. With the cold weather and money having to stretch further it is important to consider any ways of saving money and keeping warm that we can.”

Care and Repair has targeted people in Forfar, Kirriemuir, Brechin and Montrose but can still take referrals as tariff checks are carried out in clients’ homes due to funding for equipment from British Gas Energy Trust.

The group’s new service is backed by Councillor David May who urged everyone eligible to take advantage of it and save money.

He said: “We are very pleased that this service has developed in Angus. In fact the service is highlighted in the Scottish Government recent publication Age, Home And Community: A Strategy For Housing For Scotland’s Older People: 2012 – 2021.”

Home visits, completely free for the over 60s or disabled people of any age, can be arranged by contacting Lorraine or Helen on 01307 463232.
