Did you witness a disturbance?

BRITISH Transport Police (BTP) officers investigating a disturbance on board a train travelling between London and Edinburgh are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Officers are asking anyone who witnessed the incident on board the 1630hrs London King’s Cross – Edinburgh Waverley service on Sunday, June 17, to contact them if they have any information which they believe could assist the ongoing investigation.

PC Harry Thompson, one of the investigating officers, said: “The East Coast service was delayed at York following a number of complaints from passengers about the behaviour of a group of passengers who were in coach D on the train.

“The group included adult males and females who were sat in the middle of the coach on both sides of the carriage and had hung up Union Jack flags above them.

“I am appealing for anyone who travelled on board the 1630hrs London King’s Cross – Edinburgh service on Sunday, June 17, and saw or heard what happened to contact BTP in confidence.”

When the train arrived at York rail station, three men, aged 41, 47 and 52, and a 48-year-old woman, all from the Edinburgh area, were arrested on suspicion of a public order offence. All four were released on police bail until July 15, pending further enquiries.

Anyone with information which they believe could assist the investigation is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
