YOUNG bookworms in Angus have read more than 19,000 this summer in conjunction with Angus libraries’.

Primary school children took part in the Tesco Bank Summer Reading Challenge while babies, toddlers and pre-school children enjoyed Bookbug’s Library Challenge.

Nearly 900 children signed up for this year’s challenge, “Story Lab”, with more than half successfully reaching the finish line by reading six books or more during the holidays.

Co-ordinated by The Reading Agency and with 760,000 children aged four to 11 taking part across the UK, the challenge is the biggest national reading initiative.

In Angus, 70.3% of boys and girls aged four to 12 already belong to their local libraries and staff are keen to encourage more of their young readers to use the library all year round.

Every Angus Library hosts regular free activities, clubs, story times and more for boys and girls from babies to teens. Details can be found in each library.
