Contractor to deal with gateway ads

A PRIME advertising spot on the outskirts of Montrose will soon be up for rent following the appointment of a contractor to handle gateway advertising sites for Angus Council.

Councillors agreed last year to employ a specialist company to market the opportunity to sponsor prominent locations in the county, including some larger roundabouts. A list of suitable sites was considered and the Rossie Island Road roundabout is the only one in the Montrose area deemed suitable to carry advertising.

The authority has now awarded the two-year contract for sponsorship of 13 locations across the county to Community Partners Ltd.

Although the council decided in 2006 not to open verges and roundabouts to commercial interests, the subject was raised again in 2011 by local councillor David May who had been approached by a local event organiser after they were told that placing advertising banners on council fences at roundabouts contravened policy.

The new venture will be open to local, regional and national companies to sponsor signs at a number of prominent sites in Angus and the contract period covers the period of the Commonwealth Games event at Barry Buddon and a number of other significant visitor events in Angus.

Mike Brennan, Community Partners managing director, said: “We are delighted to be working with Angus. As part of AdGroup, we have been working in Scotland for over 20 years selling bus, ferry and airport advertising, and believe that this win compliments our other assets with Airport Partners such as Dundee Airport.”

Anyone interested in sponsoring a site can contact the company at enquiries@communitypartners.co.uk.
