Games will present business opportunities

ANGUS businesses are being encouraged to take full advantage of the opportunities presented to them by the staging of next year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The games will be the second largest multi-sport event in the world and a vast range of goods and services are needed to support its delivery.

Councillor Jeanette Gaul, chairwoman of the Angus Commonwealth Games Steering Group, is urging local businesses to register their interest

She said: “We’re immensely proud that Angus is going to be a games venue next summer, when the shooting competition at Barry Buddon will draw thousands of people into the area. We are working to ensure that visitors enjoy their visit and that we make the most of that opportunity for Angus.

“However, a vast array of business opportunities related to the games is available now, and we want to make sure that our local companies are aware of them and know how to register their interest.”

Businesses can register at the Glasgow Business Portal www.glasgow.gov.uk/businessportal where they can select the categories of goods and services appropriate to them. They will then receive automated e-mail alerts on opportunities which match their preferences.

Companies can also register with the Public Contracts Scotland Quick Quote system to be considered for all low-value contracts not advertised publicly through a formal tender, at www.publiccontractsscotland.gov.uk/login.aspx.

The council’s business advice team can also offer advice and support. Further information is available by contacting Roy Johnston on 01356 627040 or by e-mailing johnstonr@angus.gov.uk/
