ABERDEEN-based services contractor Bilfinger Salamis has added Montrose Academy FP Murray Strachan to its board in the new role of Strategic Development Director.

Mr Strachan, who was brought up in Montrose, will lead the development of the Salamis product portfolio.

Mr Strachan, son of Sandy and Liz Strachan, attended Montrose Academy from 1979 to 1985 before embarking on a career in management, including a spell as managing director of the town’s Park Hotel.

He previously worked with BIS Salamis from 1990-98, initially as a materials and logistics manager, rising to general manager for business support and services.

Subsequently he was managing director of The RGIT Montrose Group, overseeing its sale to Petrofac in 2004. Murray worked with Petrofac for a number of years following the divestment of his business, latterly as chief of staff leading a range of business development projects for that business. Since leaving Petrofac in 2007, Mr Strachan has worked with the owners, executives and funders of a diverse range of businesses and organisations throughout the UK, in the capacity of strategic advisor, investor, non-executive director or interim executive, helping to create, add, recover and protect shareholder value.

Mr Strachan is the current vice-chairman of the Entrepreneurial Exchange in Scotland and holds a number of honorary and non-executive positions in UK businesses.

He said: “I’m excited to be returning to Bilfinger Salamis and the challenge of an executive leadership role within the Bilfinger Industrial Services Group.

“When approached at the end of last year, I was immediately interested in the role, as well as excited by their exciting plans to grow the businesses and Group as a whole.”
