North East MSP Alex Johnstone has welcomed the Office of Fair Trading’s launch of a call for information into the UK petrol and diesel sector.

Mr Johnstone said: “The OFT is calling for submissions regarding a number of claims being made including whether there is a lack of competition between retailers in some remote communities and whether reductions in the price of crude oil are being reflected in falling pump prices.

“I know many people have expressed genuine concerns about petrol prices, and this is especially true in rural areas, so I welcome this move by the OFT.”

Once submissions have been received the OFT will analyse the evidence to determine whether any further action is warranted and intend to publish a summary of findings and any proposed next steps in January, 2013.
