Seasonal delights at farmers’ market

Visitors to this Saturday’s Montrose Farmers’ Market will be treated to a cooking demonstration by chef David McCready who will show off his skills on a seasonal menu.

David, who held a similar demonstration at the first Indoor Forfar Farmers’ Market in June, has worked in numerous hotels and restaurants including Glasgow’s famous Central Hotel.

The menu will use fresh produce on the day and will show simple food can be delicious when quality produce is used. Dishes will include a warm salad of venison and partridge with a Red Onion Salsa and a Market Omelette using free range eggs and whatever is found on stalls on the day. This will be accompanied by a medley of seasonal vegetables and followed by summer berry crepes with a yoghurt and honey drizzle.

His demonstration has been organised as part of the Taste of Angus Festival, which celebrates the quality foods and ingredients produced across the Angus area.

The market will also introduce a new stall, Kitchen Garden Delights, which is a family-run business specialising in home grown and homemade produce. This will include a selection of handmade pizzas freshly made on the day with toppings including fresh garden vegetables as well as homemade bread, rolls and muffins that can be pre ordered on the business’s website and delicious ketchups including fruity brown sauce and apple cider and gooseberry ketchup.

The market’s loyalty card has proved to be successful and customers can get their card stamped at the market information stall and also Isabella’s Preserves stall. Once the card has six stamps its holder will be entered into a draw at the December 8 market for a prize of £150 worth of vouchers, just in time to fill cupboards and freezer ahead of the Christmas season.

The Angus Farmers Market found in Montrose High Street on the first Saturday of the month from 9am to 1pm and indoors at the Strathmore Hall, The Mart, John Street, Forfar on the second Saturday from 9am to 3pm, a special extended time for the Taste of Angus Festival.
