Second competition in memory of Adana

THE SECOND annual charity Texas Scramble in memory of local girl Adana Forsyth will be held at the Montrose Caledonia Golf Club on Sunday, April 15.

The event was first held last year to raise funds for the charity Debra, which raises awareness of and supports research into the genetic skin condition epidermolysis bullosa (EB).

Adana, known as the ‘Montrose Butterfly Girl’, suffered from EB and died in 2008, aged just 10. The condition caused her skin to blister with the slightest touch or trauma forcing her to endure almost constant pain throughout her short life.

Adana and her parents worked tirelessly to raise awareness of the condition.

Last year’s competition raised £4,598.20 and organisers Lisa and Jason Stone are hoping to repeat its success.

Lisa said: “With every penny that is raised we are one step closer to a cure. And we have been informed by Debra that they are hopeful of this very soon, so let’s give them another push and make Adana’s Day bigger and better this year.”

The event will be held on the Medal Course and there are still places available for teams of four of any combination of ladies (30) gents (18) or juniors.

Tee times will be from 8am which will be allocated on first come, first served basis. Entry will cost £120 per team and will include a bacon roll and coffee on arrival, course refreshments and a three-course carvery dinner cooked by two four star Chefs from The Westerwood Spa Hotel.

There will be prizes for first, second, third and fourth places, plus spot prizes including a fantastic hole in one prize of a car, provided by Mackie Motors and sponsored by Green Park Garage. The overall winning team will receive the ‘Adana Memorial Trophy’.

An auction will follow the contest and organisers are also looking for support with auction, raffle and spot prizes. Anyone wishing to offer a prize or enter a team can do so by contacting Lisa on 07753 216973/01674 677447 or Jason on 07966 432963. Entry and donations forms are also available from the golf club.
