Montrose Roselea 1 Lochee Harp 1
(Harp won 3-1 on penalties)

AFTER a long run of league games, the Currie Cup took centre stage on Saturday when Lochee Harp visited Broomfield Park in a second round tie.

Roselea had Anderson, Longmuir, Maiden and McKellar missing and made seven changes to the starting line up from recent matches with Colin Page included after been missing for two seasons with long term injury.

The home side started brightly and
Riach had a shot off target after a good move which included five good passes before the ball reached the striker.

Miller then had to concede a corner at the other end from a Dailly cross after good set up play by Taylor. From the resultant corner Roselea failed to clear and McLeod had to save a Dailly header.

In 14 minutes the deadlock was broken and it was Roselea who scored. Rae set up Brand and from his cross Christie was first to the ball to score from close range.

This appeared to lift the home side and Mustard saw a shot deflect off a defender and trouble keeper McPherson as it went just over the bar for a corner.

The game then became a bit scrappy and during this period a number of players were cautioned including Miller and Craig of Roselea.

Roselea continued to attack and Fotheringham had to turn the ball behind from a Rae corner before it could reach Page inside the penalty area.

The home side came close again when Brand picked up a pass and struck a 30 yard shot which just cleared the bar.

Brand again caused problems as he received a cross from Rae only to see his cross deflected behind for another corner.

Miller then went close for the home side as he rose to head a corner off the top of the crossbar.

The last incident of the half saw Brand cautioned for a challenge on Kelly as Roselea continued to pressure the home defence.

The home side made a change at the interval with Kennedy going on to replace David Craig.

Harp started the second half well and pressed forward with Lees going down the left side and Whyte had to head his dangerous cross clear.

Lees again went clear for Harp and McLeod parried his effort with Doug Craig having to clear before Mason could pounce.

Roselea made a second substitution when Graham replaced Millar in 62 minutes.

Harp leveled the game minutes later as a long deep cross was misjudged by McLeod and Lees scored from close range.

McLeod was called into action again as the dangerous Lees forced a diving save from the keeper as Roselea struggled to get back in the game.

The home side made their third change when Watson went on for Page who did very well on his first game back.

McPherson then made a great diving save from Brand after good set up play between Watson and Kennedy.

The game swung to the other end and McLeod had to make a great diving save after Millar was allowed a free header from a free kick.

Both teams continued to have chances with Fotheringham heading straight at McLeod and Rae shooting off target from a good position.

Roselea had further cautions for Whyte and Rae as the game came to a close and it was straight to penalty kicks to decide winner.

It was Harp who came out on top 3-1 with Peters, Kelly and Fotheringham their scorers while only Riach managed to find the net for Roselea.

Roselea side are now left to concentrate on their final three league games as they push for the league championship. This starts with a visit on Saturday to Dundee to play Violet, kick-off 2.30pm. This leaves two home matches against Broughty Athletic and East Craigie which have still to be arranged.

Roselea: McLeod, Miller (Graham), Whyte, Doug Craig, Rae, Mustard, David Craig(Kennedy), Christie, Page (Watson), Brand, Riach. Subs: Kerrigan, Massie.
