Merpro 1 Dundee University 1

MERPRO were in midweek league action in an enthralling and entertaining match against a strong and well organised University side in search of valuable points in an increasingly tight finish to the season.

The students started well with Findlay making an excellent clearance off the line preventing a certain goal in 4 minutes.

The University went ahead when a low speculative shot from 25 yards squirmed under Dunbar in 6 minutes.

Merpro then came
back into the match with a series of efforts. Milne and Christie combined to almost make the breakthrough in 12 minutes.

Harrison had a long free kick almost converted at the back post by Christie in 14 minutes.

Merpro finally equalised when Milne collected a Findlay throw and set up Craig Christie who shrugged off a marker and curled an controlled low shot into the corner of the net from 16 yards to make it 1-1.

Donaldson and Christie then combined well for the latter to fire in a shot well saved by the keeper.

The University keeper almost gifted a goal following an erratic throw out which gave Christie an opportunity but the keeper was able to block his initial shot and then a defender prevented his rebound effort from reaching the goal in 30 minutes.

Merpro started the second period well with Whitworth shooting past the post in 48 minutes. Allan then had a 30 yard effort saved by the keeper in 54 minutes.

Merpro had another good opportunity when Christie managed to round the keeper and send in a cross for Allan to only narrowly head past the post under pressure.

Merpro went close again when Milne to fired in a looping 18 yard shot which was well tipped over the bar.

Christie had another shot well saved by the increasingly busy keeper in 63 minutes,

In the latter stages the University came back into the match and Dunbar made a good save from a fierce 12 yard shot with Merpro claiming for offside to keep the scoreline even.

This was an excellent match with both sides constantly stretching each other in a high tempo and exciting game producing one of Merpro's best performances of the season.

Merpro: Dunbar, Harrison, Houston, Allan, Smith (Stephen), Findlay, S. Wilson, Whitworth, Christie, Milne, Donaldson Sub: C. Wilson.
