Dundee Violet 0 Roselea 5

ROSELEA clinched the East Region North League Championship on Saturday after a convincing win over Violet.

With only Christie and McKellar missing, Roselea had a strong squad to choose from for their final away league game of the season.

Roselea could not have started any better and took the lead within the first minute. Watson won the ball from full
back Milton and sent Kennedy clear on goal. Keeper Kelly blocked the effort but the ball broke to Calum Rae who shot into the empty net from 10 yards.

The home side tried to respond and good play by Snowden down the left set up a chance for Duncan but excellent defending by Whyte cleared the danger.

The game swung to the other end and good work by Kennedy sent Watson through on the left. The striker hit the ball across the face of goal and narrowly past the far post.

Roselea were always looking dangerous and extended their lead in 19 minutes when Longmuir sent a free kick into the penalty area where Whyte headed back across goal and Steve Kerrigan scored from close range.

Watson saw a header go over the bar after Rae had sent a volley across the penalty area as the away side kept up the pressure.

The home side had their best chance when Kiddie sent Duncan through on goal only for the striker to lob McLeod and see the ball go narrowly past the post.

Watson and Kerrigan combined well and from the centre a defender got to the ball before Rae and headed clear. From the resultant throw-in Miller sent a drive from 20 yards off target.

Violet thought they had reduced the deficit in 29 minutes as Kiddie headed home unmarked from a cross but the official gave offside against the striker.

The home striker was not to play much more of a part and in 36 minutes he was shown a second yellow card and ordered off for a challenge on keeper McLeod as he attempted to clear the ball.

Roselea started the second half in attacking mood and increased their lead in 50 minutes. Kerrigan sent Kennedy clear down the left side and from his cut back Rae slammed the ball home.

The lead was extended further in 59 minutes. Watson had an attempt from a narrow angle blocked by keeper Kelly but Kerrigan looked up and chipped the ball across goal for Rae to complete his hat trick with a close in header.

The first change was made shortly after when Riach went on to replace the hard working Watson up front.

In 66 minutes Roselea made it 5-0 with an identical goal to the second. Longmuir sent a deep free kick into the penalty area and Whyte rose to head back across goal for Kerrigan to stoop low and head home from close range.

Anderson was next to try his luck after Riach had knocked down a Longmuir cross but the attempt was off target.

Roselea made a further two changes. Page replaced the injured Kerrigan and then Mustard replaced David Craig.

Anderson saw an attempt go over after good move between himself and Page as Roselea continued to be in command.

Just before the final whistle the home side were reduced to nine men when Smith spoke out of turn and was shown a second yellow card after being cautioned in the first half.

Roselea left the field in great spirits after an excellent performance but this turned to elation when news filtered through that nearest challangers Broughty Athletic had drawn, leaving Roselea as champions.

This was an outstanding performance by the whole squad with some excellent football played and a special mention goes to hat trick hero Calum Rae.

Roselea: McLeod, Miller, Graham, Whyte, Longmuir, Rae, Anderson, David Craig (Mustard), Kennedy, Watson (Riach), Kerrigan (Page). Subs: Brand, Doug Craig.
