All systems go for St Cyrus Scouting

IN RECENT months the newly-formed team of leaders have been working hard behind the scenes to bring Scouting back to St Cyrus.

Currently there are 18 Beavers (aged six to 10) and it is planned to run the first Beaver evening on May 28 from 6 to 7pm, for four weeks until the school breaks up, returning in August.

There are fewer Cubs, but the intention is also to start on May 28, from 7.15 to 8.30pm. Cubs are open to boys and girls ages eight to 10½.

Names are still being taken for all sections, although Beavers, maximum 24, is nearly full.

It is also planned to have a Scout section up and running as soon as there are enough names. Scouts will be open to ages 10½ to 14 years.

A parent rota will be set up whereby they will be required to assist for the duration of the meeting once every 10 to 12 weeks. This is dependant of course on the numbers of Beaver/Cubs.

As the movement in St Cyrus grows it is important to get the support of the community as a Parent Committee will require to be set up to assist will fund-raising/admin, etc., and allow the Leader to focus on the Scouting.

The group is starting from nothing and is desperately in need of funds for equipment, essentials and help with running costs. The first Scouting fund-raiser will be at the Summer Gala, where there will be a map treasure hunt and a whisky trail games running. Donations of prizes will be gratefully accepted.

Parents are asked to remember when picking up/dropping children at the Scout Hall, to refrain from bringing a car all the way along the lane to the hall as there is very limited access and turning space; so please leave your car on Beach Road.
