Entertaining evening at accordion and Fiddle Club

THE APRIL meeting of the Accordion and Fiddle Club was well attended and the crowd enjoyed a wide selection of tunes from some very talented musicians.

First on stage was Dave Coke on accordion accompanied by George Fitchett on accordion, Avril Abbot on drums and resident keyboard player Ron Stewart, closely followed by Dave Smith on fiddle with the same accompanists.

George Fitchett then took the lead for a couple of selections.

Mouth organ player Ally Rennie gave a few selections followed by Arbroath club chairman Tony Simpson on midi accordion with Liz Arthur on fiddle and Avril on Drums. Next on stage was Bill Mackie on button box accompanied by Tony, Avril and Ron.

The guest artistes for the evening were the Neil Hardie Scottish Dance Band from the Borders. Neil on lead accordion, sister Caroline on fiddle, Brian Forrest on second accordion, Graham Sherrit on drums and Jim Nichol on keyboard. It was a great sound from a working dance band with a variety of tunes to suit all tastes.

After the raffle and refreshments the second half started off with Angus Gove on the mouthorgan followed by Johnny Duncan on five-row accordion, Arthur Wood on Shand Morino and lastly Ron Ramsay on electric pipes.

The Neil Hardie Band played another great selection to bring the evening to a close.

The guest band for May will be the Steven Carcary Trio with the Billy Anderson Trio for the June meeting.
