Folk Club makes the Celtic Connection

THE FIRST concert of the new season at Montrose Folk Club in the Links Hotel, Montrose on Tuesday, January 22, will feature a first appearance in Montrose by award-winning multi-instrumentalist Tim Edey.

Tim won two categories at the 2012 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards - Musician of The Year and Best Duo with Irish harmonica wizard Brendan Power.

He will be performing at Montrose Folk Club immediately after appearing, as both a headliner and in various other guises, for three consecutive evenings at Celtic Connections in Glasgow.

In fact, Montrose Folk Club is billing the new season as ‘Celtic Connections almost at Your Fireside.’ Of the first six guests of the new season, five are part of the line up for the 2013 Celtic Connections Festival, whilst the sixth guest, Brooks Williams, appeared at the 2012 Celtic Connections Festival.

Tim grew up in Kent but inherited his love of Irish and Scottish music from his mother. Having played in the past as a member of the dynamic Scottish band, Session A9, he moved last year to reside permanently in Perthshire.

He describes himself as a ‘Celtic Jazzer’ and loves all sorts of music, particularly those with swing such as gypsy jazz and Orkney and Shetland tunes. He is a musical wizard on an incredible range of instruments including guitar, mandolin, piano, accordion and melodeon. He plays more than 10 instruments to a high class professional standard. In addition to the award winning duo with Brendan Power, Tim regularly plays in a duo with another legendary Irishman, Seamus Begley, plays with his own band, The Collective, played on the most recent album release by Christy Moore and with many other artists.

For Tim one of his many highlights of 2012 was to embark on a lengthy tour of Europe and the USA with The Chieftains. Everyone is welcome at Montrose Folk Club next Tuesday for what is certain to be an outstanding start to the 2013 season. The doors at the Links Hotel will be open at 7.30 p.m. with Tim on stage at 8 p.m.
