No elbow-room at fiddle club

THE JUNE meeting of Montrose Accordion and Fiddle Club was held in the Park Hotel and it was standing room only in the function room for the largest turnout of aficionados seen for a long time.

MC Ron Ramsay welcomed the company and introduced Ian Cruickshanks to take the opening spot, accompanied by resident keyboard player Ron Stewart and Bruce Lindsay on second box with Jerry Boxall on drums. Next on stage was Janet Graham who kept the toes tapping with a popular selection, closely followed by Arthur Wood.

The Brandon McPhee Trio took to the stage and gave a resounding performance to a very appreciative audience. Brandon on button box, Manson Grant on keyboard and Robert Cameron on drums kept the audience enthralled with a great performance.

After the break for the raffle and refreshments Jim Hood introduced Ron Stewart on keyboard and Jerry Boxall on drums who accompanied Bill Mackie on button box, Eric Davidson on accordion, Ally Rennie on mouthorgan and John Davidson on accordion, who played great selections.

The Gladys Wright Band, consisting of Gladys, Ian Cruickshanks, Bruce Lindsay, Arthur Wood, Dave Ross, George Fitchett and Dave Puller on accordions; Dave Smith on fiddle, Ron Stewart on keyboard and Jerry Boxall on drums certainly had the ‘Big Band’ sound as they played a couple of selections.

The Brandon McPhee Trio came back on stage to complete the remainder of the afternoon’s entertainment and were encouraged to do an encore bring to a close a most successful and entertaining club meeting.

There is no meeting in July, and the guest band for August is the Scott Nichol Band. As usual, all are welcome.
