Packed summer

DUNDEE Schools Music Theatre shows no sign of slowing up and relaxing over the summer period as the young casts approach their performance dates in August.

The renowned music theatre initiative, which works with young people from across Dundee schools, has yet again set an ambitious programme for it’s summer season - three weeks which have become a highlight of the Tayside theatre calendar.

This dynamic troupe seem set to take audiences by storm again with three productions in three theatres in three weeks.

In it’s 12th season they will present Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Cats” The Musical by special arrangement with the Really Useful Group Ltd performed entirely by students at Dundee Rep Theatre from Wednesday 15 to Saturday, August 18. The following week a second energetic cast invite audiences to join them on a “Summer Holiday” from Thursday, August 23 to Saturday, August 25 at the Whitehall Theatre Dundee in a musical trip featuring everyone’s favourite songs from the classic film “Summer Holiday”.

Nine years on since Dundee Schools Music Theatre were the first to produce the epic “Les Miserables” in the area the company are delighted to present their new production of the show at the Gardyne Theatre from Wednesday, August 29 to Saturday, September 1.

Director Kenny Christie explained “All of the shows are so completely different in terms of their content and challenge. A lot of work has gone into vocal training this year particularly with the older casts. We have had to work hard to develop everyone’s stamina and energy levels week on week to be able to fully perform the big sequences particularly in “Summer Holiday”.” Tickets for “Summer Holiday” and “Les Miserables - School Edition” are available from the Dundee City Box Office 01382 434960 or on line at www.dundeebox.co.uk Tickets for the schools production of “Cats” are available from Dundee Rep Theatre Box Office 01382 223530 or online at www.dundeerep.co.uk
