Porcelain Tayberry in RSA exhibition

editorial image

MARALYN Reed-Wood, of Redcastle Pottery, Inverkeilor, has been honoured by the Royal Scottish Academy by having one of her pieces included in their Open Exhibition.

The RSA is the home of contemporary art in Scotland and its aim is to cultivate and promote the visual arts in Scotland.

Since 1826 the RSA has occupied the William Henry Mayfair’s magnificent landmark building on the Mound in Edinburgh.

The piece, called ‘Super Fruit’, executed partly in local clay, intends to show how the modern media can blow things out of all proportion and exalt the ordinary to the levels of a deity.

‘Super Fruit’ is one of a series of ‘statue’ type sculptures commenting on issues constantly hitting world news headlines.

The RSA Exhibition is open to the public until January 31.

Maralyn continues to try to raise the profile of ceramics in Scotland, and is an active member of the Scottish Potters Association.

She also supports COAST (Banff and Buchan) and the Aboyne and Pittenweem Arts festivals.

She is a founder member of Angus Open Studios and is also a supporter of Arbroath’s own Hospitalfield Arts Centre.

Maralyn’s smaller, decorative work can be seen in a number of local galleries: GalleryQ, Dundee; Sun Gallery, Newburgh and Fisher Gallery, Pittenweem in Fife; and Torrance and Laurel Galleries in Edinburgh.

Some of her larger statements, ‘Migration’ and ‘Estuary’ are on show at Eduardo Alessandro Studio, Gray Street, Broughty Ferry.
