Third invitation to Trump film refused
MONTROSE film-maker Anthony Baxter has criticised First Minister Alex Salmond for refusing a third invitation to view his film ‘You’ve Been Trumped’.
He said that although Mr Salmond travelled 5,000 miles to Los Angeles for the premiere of ‘Brave’, an animated film set in Scotland, he had turned down the invitation to watch the award-winning documentary which will be shown in Edinburgh.
‘You’ve Been Trumped’, directed by Mr Baxter and produced by Richard Phinney, follows the progress of Mr Trump’s £750 million golf course development on the Menie Estate north of Aberdeen, a former Site of Special Scientific Interest.
A spokesman for Mr Salmond said the First Minister would be unable to fit a viewing in to his schedule, although ‘You’ve Been Trumped’ will be shown 48 times in 14 Scottish centres over the next two weeks following its UK-wide release last week.
Mr Baxter said: “Apparently Mr Salmond prefers fantasy to reality, but it is an extraordinary snub to the long-suffering residents from his own constituency who are portrayed in the film. The Trump Organisation has branded them ‘a national embarrassment for Scotland’. I think they’re an inspiration and they deserve better.”
Currently, ‘You’ve Been Trumped’ is the highest rated British feature film ever listed on the Internet Movie Database (IMDb).
Its national cinema release premiered in St Andrews last Friday and the head of the Royal & Ancient has requested to see the film after receiving a letter from Mr Phinney asking whether the R&A would boycott the opening on Tuesday of Mr Trump’s golf course.
Chief Executive Peter Dawson said that neither he nor any member of the R&A would be at the opening, citing the responsibilities they have in the approach to The Open Golf Championship at Royal Lytham and St Annes.
