NEXT Friday, April 15, the Angus Members’ Centre of the National Trust for Scotland has organised two speakers to give an interesting insight on subjects relating to fabrics and design.
On the fabric front, Ann Law will speak about “Osnaburg”, an important type of linen in the East of Scotland in the 18th century which was exported to England, the Low Countries and America.
The second speaker is Professor Richard Carr, from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, who will talk about The Hill House in Helensburgh. This NTS property, high above the Clyde, was designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh for Walter Blackie, director of the well-known Glasgow publishers.
Mackintosh designed the house, the garden and much of the furniture. In addition, along with his wife, he designed the interior fittings and decorative schemes.
The event will take place in the Northmuir Hall, Kirriemuir at 7:30pm. Admission is £7, which includes refreshments available during the evening. Tickets can be obtained by phoning 01575 570905, 01575 575693, or 01575 572696.
