Final concert of season for TSO

PREPARATIONS have started for Tayside Symphony Orchestra’s last concert of this year which will be held on Saturday September 22 in the Reid Hall, Forfar, beginning at 7.30pm.

This concert sees an interesting combination of symphony and choral music in which TSO is collaborating with Angus Choral and the Cecilian choir from Dundee. Mary Veal who plays in the string section of the orchestra is conductor of Angus Choral while her father has the same role with the city group.

The orchestra will perform Schubert’s “Rosamunde” Overture and the Symphony No. 3 (“Eroica”) by Beethoven. Choirs and Orchestra will collaborate with “The Lord’s My Shepherd” and Haydn’s “St.Nicolas Mass.”

Ron Walker, TSO conductor, said: “I am really delighted to be working with Mary and the choirs.

“It’s a long time since we put on a combined programme like this and we’re sure it will attract our loyal Angus audience. We have deliberately chosen items which should appeal to all musical tastes and are appropriate for what we hope will be a warm autumn evening. As usual, we will run a bus from Montrose/Brechin to Forfar at a nominal cost: potential travellers should contact John Stevenson (Montrose 830250) by September 19 at the latest. Finally, I look forward to joining members of the audience in some refreshment at the end of the concert.”

Tickets will be on sale soon from Toy Castle, Castle St., Forfar; Hoggs, High Street, Montrose; any member TSO/TSO committee; on the evening of the performance. Doors open at 6.45.
