Dozens of children have taken part in the Design a Shield workshops across ANGUSalive facilities during the school holidays.
Around 100 primary school-age children from across Angus attended the free Dragon Matrix craft workshops to produce their own special heraldic shields and at the same time join the Dragon Protection League.
Congratulations go to overall winner, eight-year-old Katarzyna Zyskowska for her splendid design.
Katarzyna took part in the competition at Arbroath Library. Her spellbinding shield design earned her opening night family tickets to the swashbuckling Sinbad pantomime at the Webster Memorial Theatre in Arbroath, as well as a host of Dragon Matrix goodies and a Dragon Protection League certificate.
Second prize went to Daisy Mackie (4), who created her shield at Montrose Sports Centre and third place to Lily Phoenix May (7) who designed her shield at Montrose Museum. Both will receive Dragon Matrix goodies and a certificate.
Kirsty Hunter, Chief Executive of ANGUSalive said: “The standard of all the children’s artwork was fantastic, leaving our judges with a very difficult task to pick out a winner.
“It has been really impressive to see the imagination shown in the childrens’ work, as they linked their own family backgrounds with the history of Angus.
“Katarzyna’s entry captured the essence of a heraldic shield perfectly and certainly captivated our judges. Thanks to the Forest Walker from Vision Mechanics (creators of Dragon Matrix) and Jake Stewart, ANGUSalive exhibitions officer for judging the entries.”
Symon Macintyre, Artistic Director, Vision Mechanics, said: “We would like to congratulate Katarzyna on her fantastic design and were delighted to see all of the shields which were made throughout the holiday period. It was great to see the children and wider communities embrace the whole concept of creating their own dragon shields, and get truly immersed in the spirit of Dragon Matrix!”
All the winning shields will be on display at the Ranger’s Centre at Monikie Country Park, with the other shields all on display throughout the park until October 31.
Dragon Matrix, the augmented light reality show featuring dragons and other magical creatures within the theatrically lit woods of Monikie Country Park runs until October 31 (but not Oct 24).
