Stagecoach has invested more than £2.4 million in a fleet of eight brand new luxury coaches for the Coastrider X7 route
Operating from November 24, the route, which serves, Montrose, Arbroath and Stonehaven along the coast between Aberdeen and Dundee, will have more seats and more features.
Andrew Jarvis, managing director, Stagecoach East Scotland, said: “Our new vehicles are the latest in luxury coach travel and feature leather reclining seats, air conditioning, free wifi, on-board charge points, an on-board toilet and cycle racks with space for five bikes.”
The new Plaxton Elitei coaches have dedicated bike racks within the luggage hold area, allowing cycles to be safely secured during the journey.
Stagecoach also plan to extend the popular route into Perth from the same date and have published a new timetable for the current Coastrider X7 route, which will see the route extended every day.
The new timetable will provide an hourly link from Mondays to Saturdays.
The Sunday service between Aberdeen and Dundee will also runt every hour, extending every 2 hours to Perth.
Speaking about the new route, Mr Jarvis added: “The Coastrider X7 route has been very popular since its launch in 2011.
“We have added extra journeys as the route has grown over the years.
“The extension of the route will provide great new links for so many people travelling to college and university, city centres, hospitals sites.
“And, of course, it will continue to provide relaxing journeys along our beautiful coastline.”
Stagecoach North Scotland has also launched a competition inviting members of the public to design a new version of the iconic Bluebird which features on the livery of all their coaches.
It is open to all ages and to professional and amateur designers. The winner will receive a cash prize of £,1000.
The Bluebird emblem has been part of coaching history for more than 80 years, making its first appearance in 1934.
