AS PART of the 12 months of celebrations commemorating 450 years of golf in Montrose, today (Wednesday) 45 Royal Marines from 45 Commando will play a round on Montrose Medal.

Alan Crow, chairman of Montrose Golf Links, explained that the Marines have been invited to play on the Carnoustie Country course during the Montrose 450 celebrations in recognition of their efforts on previous tours of duty in Afghanistan.

He explained that the Marines will be playing golf with representatives of the three Montrose golf clubs. “Following their rounds of golf, there will be a meal in one of the clubhouses for everyone involved, where the best golfers of the day will be presented with Montrose 450 commemoration trophies, Then Montrose Heritage Trust, one of the sponsors of this event, will present a special trophy to 45 Commando.”

The Marines’ Montrose Links golf day is also sponsored by the Rotary Club of Montrose.

Rotary chairman Chris Hardy said: “45 Commando RM has been based at Condor since the early 1970s and the service personnel and their families have made a valuable contribution to the whole Angus community.”
