LOCAL theatre school Centre S.T.A.G.E. played to a packed house in the Town Hall on Saturday December 19 when they staged 'A Christmas Cracker'.

This showstopping medley of song and dance numbers brought to the stage a wealth of local talent from as young as six years old.

Pupils from all age groups were joined onstage by a group of adult soloists who normally sing in the orchestra pit to boost the sound onstage.

The audience enjoyed numbers from musicals such as Billy Elliot, Chicago, Gipsy and Legally Blonde as well as a Michael Jackson tribute, a swing section, some modern hip hop dance, and some fabulous solo and ensemble singing.

The evening was compered by Joe Wishart and culminated in a spectacular Christmas section with costumes of red, gold, silver and green offset against a backdrop of Christmas décor with a ten foot tree.

A member of the audience said: "It was a wonderful evening's entertainment, full of the joy and spirit of the season." Pupils and staff are now looking forward to a festive break before resuming classes on January 9 when they will begin rehearsing for two cabaret engagements early in the year.

Sound was by Accent Dundee and lighting by Stage Lighting Services (Brechin).
