A LOCAL business group is in the running to scoop a share of more than £7,000 worth of prizes with a new video posted this week on Internet clip site Youtube.
The Angus chapter of BNI Nexus, which meets weekly in Montrose, has entered a national competition to produce a short film illustrating the strengths of membership and explaining what the group can do for local businesses.
It operates as a word-
of-mouth referral and networking organisation for professional business people, with meetings every Friday morning in the park Hotel.
The eight-minute film was made by local film-maker and Nexus member Chris Tomlinson who has taken a novel approach to his subject. Shot in the style of an Indiana Jones movie the film, BNI Nexus and the Key to Success, begins with one of the chapter's usual weekly meetings attended by newcomer Dr Jones.
He then sets out on a lone quest to find the fabled Key to Success,
With suitable locations in the local area to double up as hot and sunny climates in short supply, particularly after heavy snowfalls, Chris got around the problem by filming sequences in Dundee's botanic gardens as well as using digital imaging and some clever editing.
The film has been entered in the national BNI Nexus Youtweet film competition which offers prizes for the best social media and social networking campaign, the best chapter video and the best tweeting and creation of an online brand and message.
Kirsten Tomlinson, from the Montrose chapter, said the film's success will be measured by the number of hits it receives on Youtube. By Tuesday afternoon it had already received 522 hits.
She said: "It invites different groups to make a film about their chapter. It partly has to promote the organisation's message in the best way but the film with the highest number of hits also gets a prize.
"A lot of other chapters have been very serious about it, but we didn't want it to be that serious. We just want to raise awareness of it as we only managed to post it in the last few days, and the deadline's at the end of this month."
