AFTER a four year absence, the Marykirk Raft Race returns on Sunday, May 24.

The organisers are delighted to announce that the race will be opened by Celtic and Scotland legend Tommy Gemmell, who is undoubtedly one of the best full-backs to ever represent Celtic and the winner of countless medals.

The race is over a fo
ur mile course ending at the Marykirk Bridge. Spectators can cheer on their favourite Raft and Rafters along the banks of Marymill. There are prizes for first, second, third, best dressed raft and best dressed rafters and most money raised.

The day of fun continues in the park where stall holders and food vendors will surround the main arena. In the arena throughout the day will be a pet show, dance routines, contests and much more.

In the car park a "Battle of the Bands" takes place with many local bands. A full bar will be provided by Chris Hudson who runs the Laurencekirk Gala bar and will be operational from 12:30pm to 8:30pm.

Funds raised on the Day are divided between CHAS and Local Clubs and Groups. CHAS is a children's hospice that offers professional care, practical help and emotional support to the whole family usually from the day they are referred to the death of their child and beyond.

Log on to www.marykirkraftrace.com for more information or pop in the Marykirk Hotel to sign up your raft and team. For stall holders, vendors, helpers and events contact Wilma on 01674 840639.
