THE MATERNITY Users Montrose group is pressing ahead with plans for a fundraiser in May, after a successful baby disco event at the weekend.

At their meeting on Tuesday, March 2 the MUMs group formed a sub-group who will take on the organisation of their Baby Show. The event is due to take place in the Park Hotel, Montrose, on Sunday, May 23.

Several suggestions were also put forward
by members for future fundraising events. Plans were also finalised for the Baby Come Dancing event which took place on Saturday, raising £123 for the maternity unit.

Members of the group also discussed the conditional approval they have received for the award of a grant from the Lottery Fund's Awards for All programme for the funding of free pregnancy yoga classes for Angus mums to be.

Vice-chair of the group, Irene Hughes, said: "This will be a great addition to the antenatal care already provided by the maternity unit and will provide a unique opportunity to local mums to experience the relaxation of pregnancy yoga with no cost to them.

"Part of the MUMs group's remit is to find ways to develop services for expectant mothers and new families in and around Montrose and the members are delighted that this innovative class looks set to be it's first achievement in this aspect of its role."

At the April meeting, members will discuss where the group should focus next. Ideas for fundraising events are already being considered and the MUMs group are expecting to be very busy over the summer months.

Mrs Hughes said: "We will be looking at developing services in conjunction with the maternity unit and of course working with the midwives to put the funds raised into the upgrading of the unit."

The next meeting of the MUMs group will be at the Picture House pub, Hume Street, on Wednesday 7th April from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. The group hope that supporters of the maternity unit will be able to come along, but if anyone can't make it to the meeting but would like to help in some way, they can contact the group via email at mumsgroup@hotmail.co.uk or contact the chair, Vicki Cracknell, on 07952 463815, leaving contact details.
