ONE MAN has proved he is willing to go the distance for charity, as he continues his sponsored walk round the coast of the UK.

Alaric Dynevor, from Brentwood in Essex, stopped over in Montrose this week having completed around 915 miles.

Alaric is walking round the coast of the UK, around 4,000 miles, to raise money for four separate charities.

He began his walk on January 3, setting off from Brighton Pier, before making his way up the east coast, and arriving in Montrose on March 9 – day 67.

Alaric is hoping to raise as much money as he can through the walk for Breakthrough Breast Cancer, the Parkinson's Disease Society, the Teenage Cancer Trust and the Little Princess Trust.

The Little Princess Trust provide real hair wigs to children suffering hair loss due to cancer treatment and alopecia.

Alaric said the walk was something he thought about around five years ago, but it took a bit of time to get going.

He said: "I started in January, and I thought it would be summer by the time I got up here, but I've been a lot quicker than I thought I would be. The cold is not a problem but the snow is a bit difficult. I've had hardly any rain at all - I've only been wet twice!

"I thought that it'd be harder and more tedious - you get up and think, 'I'm walking again all day'. There are peaks and troughs - but it's just walking.

"I wanted to see how the landscape has changed - Lincolnshire was quite dull, Kent was quite pretty, but it was Northumbria where it got really good.

"Montrose was a good place to stop and I've never been here before. I came in across the basin, and I'm going to go and explore the town."

While on his journey, Alaric's accommodation, food and clothing is to be funded by Tellus Link Network Ltd, who have agreed to sponsor him so he can concentrate on raising money for charity. Alaric is also keeping a blog, www.alswalk.co.uk, while he makes his way round the UK.

He said: "It wasn't to write history, because people already know about places, so it's supposed to be a little bit funny, a little bit entertaining. Like an alternative travel guide I guess."

Despite lots of support at home, Alaric said he was a bit disappointed with the amount of money he had raised so far.

He said: "I've only raised £1,600 so far and my target was £100,000. If I got 50p from everyone in the UK it would be £30million! It would be a bit of a pain to walk round the UK and only raise £3,000.

"If any business wants to sponsor me, they can get a link on the website, which is getting lots of hits."
