Accordion and Fiddle Club

MONTROSE Accordion and Fiddle Club’s May meeting was held in the usual venue of the Park Hotel where Ron Ramsay welcomed a large crowd and introduced local accordionist Arthur Wood.

Resident keyboard player Ron Stewart and Jerry Boxall on drums were accompanists. Kendra Coutts on piano accordion made her club debut and delighted the audience. Keith Rennie, who accompanied her, remained on stage and kept toes tapping with a fine selection. Next on stage was John Whyte who was closely followed by Cora Nicol.

Special guest band for the evening was Scott Band on lead button and piano accordions, Steven Carcary on second box, Bill Ewan on keyboard and Graeme Sherrit on drums.

After the break for refreshments and the raffle the second part got under way with Ally Rennie on mouth organ followed by Alan Petrie on button box accompanied by John Whyte on accordion, Ron Stewart on keyboard and Jerry Boxall on drums.

Accordionist John Davidson kept the momentum going with an enjoyable selection while another welcome visitor to the club was Laura Crawford on accordion accompanied by Steven Carcary, Bill Ewan and Graeme Sherrit.

Laura’s place was taken by Lisa Laird and the music continued in fine fettle with great playing from these two young ladies. A welcome visitor, Tom Cruickshank from Beauly entertained with a couple of sets before the guest band played for the remainder of the afternoon.

Grateful thanks were extended to all the players and aficionados who came along to entertain the company and make the Sunday afternoon sessions successful.
