Accordion and Fiddle Club

MONTROSE Accordion and Fiddle Club met in the Park Hotel for the December meeting. Compere Ron Ramsay was delighted to welcome a large crowd of aficionados.

The special guests for the afternoon were the Jim Lindsay Trio - Jim on accordion, Mo Rutherford on keyboard and Malcolm Ross on drums - and what a superb programme they put on with tunes from around the world but with the majority mainly traditional Scottish Dance music. The immaculate playing from these three very talented musicians was well appreciated by the audience.

They finished their programme aptly with selections of Christmas songs. Lo! and behold when ‘Jingle Bells’ was played Santa appeared to wish everyone a very merry Christmas.

Supporting local players were Arthur Wood on button box, Ally Rennie on mouth organ, two very talented young ladies from Fife, Laura Crawford on accordion and Kate Clark on fiddle; Cora Nicol on accordion, Bill Mackie on button box, another talented young lady from Forfar, Lisa Laird on accordion; Bill McDonald on mouth organ, and last but not least, Eric Davidson on accordion.

Accompanists for evening were Jerry Boxall on drums and Ron Stewart on keyboard The Club is very grateful to these players coming along every month and entertaining us – they are the backbone of the Club and they are certainly appreciated.
