Motorists are reminded that Brechin Bridge will close from Tuesday, January 26, for seven weeks to allow for work to be undertaken as part of the town’s Flood Prevention Scheme.
During this time traffic will be diverted via Montrose to get to and from Arbroath.
More localised traffic may wish to use alternative routes, but these will not be sign-posted, as they are not part of the official diversion route.
The works will also mean that local bus services will be diverted and run on revised timetables.
They affect the 31 Arbroath to Brechin Stagecoach Strathtay service and Wisharts 140 and 141 Arbroath – Friockheim – Brechin – Stracathro Hospital.
Please also be aware that some journeys between Arbroath and Auchmithie will run earlier or later than usual, as a result of the Brechin Bridge closure.
Temporary timetables are available from the bus operators at ACCESS offices and libraries, from Arbroath Bus Station and on Angus Council’s bus timetables page. Passengers are advised to check the timetable before travelling.
Angus Council and Morrison Construction will strive to minimise disruption during this essential programme of works and, weather permitting, Brechin Bridge is scheduled to re-open on Saturday, March 12.
Work was originally scheduled to begin on January 19, but this was delayed by one week due to the recent severe weather.
