Angus gardeners praised at awards

Green fingered gardeners in Angus have been praised for the high standards of entries for this year’s Angus Council garden awards ceremony with gardens in Montrose scooping some awards.

Councillor Jeanette Gaul, vice-convener of neighbourhood services, said: “Once again our green fingered tenants have excelled themselves with colourful and imaginative garden displays this summer.

“As usual there was an outstanding level of entries for the awards and I thank every gardener who has put in a great deal of hard work to achieve
success.

“In congratulating the well deserved winners, I’d like to mention all our tenants who play their part in adding to the attractiveness of our towns and villages.

“Their pride in their gardens is to be commended.”

At ceremony held at Kirriemuir Town Hall last Friday (August 30) Provost Helen Oswald presented the following awards for our local area: Montrose, George Norrie Rosebowl, 1, Albert Black, 8 Lamb Way, 2, Robert Barron, 42 Little Nursery; Brechin, Ruth Leslie Melville Rosebowl, 1, James Thomson, 38 Drumachlie Park, 2, Robert Hutcheon, 111 Market Street; Brechin and Montrose Landward, Councillor Ritchie Brechin and Montrose landward plate, 1, Alexander and Marion McPherson, 8 Slateford Road, Edzell, 2, William and Agnes Tough, 6 Slateford Road, Edzell.
