Wellbank man Bill Harvey has been honoured by the Queen, in her capacity as Sovereign Head of the Order of St John, by being promoted from Member to Officer in the Order.

Bill is active in the Order’s services to patients in the NHS Tayside area, as one of the Order’s volunteer drivers, taking cancer and renal patients to their appointments.

He is also a First Responder, one of several tasked to attend individuals suffering cardiac arrest or similar critical collapse; and he is the guardian of the Public Access Defibrillator installed by the Order at Wellbank Village Hall, available to members of the public to assist people until paramedics arrive.

Acting on instructions from Her Majesty, Sovereign Head of The Order of St John, Major-General Mark Strudwick, CBE KStJ, Prior of Scotland, presented Bill with his insignia at an investiture in St Michael’s Church, adjacent to Linlithgow Palace.

In another Angus touch, the sermon during the investiture service was delivered by Canon Joe Morrow of Tealing, himself a Knight of the Order.
