Army Cadet Force Notes

Annual Camp 2013: Annual camp next year has been confirmed as Altcar Training Camp near Southport on Merseyside from Saturday, July 27 to Friday, August 9.

Recruiting: The troop is open for new members to join. Any girl or boy aged 12 or over is invited to come along on any Monday or Thursday night to the Cadet Centre, Broomfield Road between 7pm and 9pm to find out about the many varied opportunities open to them as members of the Army Cadet Force.

Scotland Swimming Championships: L. Bombardier Chris Menmuir took part in the ACF Scotland Swimming Championships at the Whitehall Baths, Glasgow. Chris was a member of the Battalion Junior Boys’ team and swam in the 50m butterfly, 100m individual medley and was a member of the 4x50m freestyle relay team. The Junior Boys’ Team were runners-up to 1 Highlanders in their class.

First aid training: Two 2 Star Cadets, brothers Sam and Joe Smith, took part in the St John’s Ambulance Youth First Aid Certificate training and testing during the A Company Weekend (September 28-30). This qualification passes them at APC 2 Star level and the Duke of Edinburgh Award. They join L. Bombardiers Morgan Woods, Dominic Coull and Gunners Scott McBain, Chelsea McDermott and Rebecca Bradford who also recently passed completed this award.

Military skills training: The troop will practice and prepare a team for the A Company Military Skills Competition which will be held a Buddon CTC during the weekend of October 12–14. Training days on both Tuesdays and Thursdays during the school autumn holidays will take place at the Cadet Centre.

Senior drill cadre: The Battalion Regimental Sergeant Major, RSMI M Pascoe, conducted a drill cadre for all 4 Star candidates during the A Company training weekend at Buddon CTC.
