Auction at Melville South Church to raise funds to help people of Nepal

After hearing about the earthquake which hit Nepal, Melville South Church, Montrose, are hosting a charity auction to raise funds for the relief effort being made by Christian Aid.

On Saturday, April 25, a massive earthquake with a 7.8-magnitude hit the Gorkha region of Nepal, killing up to 10,000 people and injuring thousands more.

Another earthquake hit Nepal on Tuesday (May 12) near Mount Everest with a magnitude of 7.3.

Christian Aid are already in Nepal supplying, among other necessities, food, water purification tablets, blankets and tarpaulins.

The auction will be held in Melville South Church, Castle Street, Montrose, on Saturday, May 17 from 2 to 4 pm.

Among the items up for auction are a vintage first edition 1936 Monopoly game, an Indian mirror, fishing trip for four off Scurdie Ness lighthouse, advanced driving lessons, rug from Gillies worth £100, a boat trip, golf lessons, a portrait of your pet, taxi service to Ninewells or airport, a painter/decorator willing to paint a room, a holiday cottage overlooking Montrose Basin for a weekend (two nights), and the talents of musician for a special dinner/birthday.

A spokesperson for Melville South Church said: “We hope that there will be something for everyone. With your support we can make a real difference to the lives of people in Nepal. Please come along and bring your friends and family to support the ongoing relief work in Nepal.”

The event takes place during Christian Aid Week (May 10 to May 16).
