An unborn baby has died after its mother was involved in a car accident yesterday (Tuesday November 12) on the A937 at Marykirk.

The collision occurred about 10.48 a.m. yesterday and involved a black BMW and a silver BMW.

Following the collision, a pregnant 27-year-old female was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, sadly the baby died.

The A937 at Marykirk is currently closed to allow collision investigations to take place.

Sergeant Rob Warnock, from Aberdeenshire and Moray Road Policing Unit who is leading the investigation into the collision, said: “This is a tragic incident where sadly a baby has died. Our sympathies at this very difficult time are with the families affected by this collision.

“We are appealing for witnesses who may have seen either of the vehicles prior to the collision. Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.

“A report on the circumstances will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”
