A SITE on the edge of St Cyrus is a suitable location for a new housing development, the area’s planners have said.

An application for planning permission in principle has been lodged by Dundee company GL Residential Ltd., for the site to the west of Invergarry Park.

Aberdeenshire Council’s planners advised members of the Kincardine and Mearns Area Committee to back the scheme in advance of their meeting in Stonehaven on Tuesday.

The report considered by the councillors said: “Given the nature of an application seeking planning permission in principle, the applicant is under no obligation to state a determined number of dwellings proposed.

“The application therefore simply seeks to establish the principle of a residential development on site.”

The proposals attracted 11 letters of objection which raised a number of concerns including the impact on the character of the area, drainage, increased traffic in the area and the impact any large development would have on the village school’s roll.

St Cyrus Community Council has also said the scale of any future development and the possible effects on flooding problems within the village were also concerns.

The council report also stated: “The principle of the development is established by virtue of the site’s designation for housing development within the Aberdeenshire Local Plan 2006.”

Councillors were also advised to approve the application with 11 conditions including that each house should have a paved driveway.
