A retro-themed fundraiser is turning back the clock for a former Arbroath nightclub and at the same time helping out the Festival of Heroes.

Malcolm Watson has organised a themed fundraiser recalling the heydey of Bally’s nightclub in the 1990s and this special reunion event will support the Arbroath Festival of Heroes Specsavers Spectacular. Former Arbroath man Malcolm was keen to help raise the significant funds needing to be raised to put on the event which will feature the Red Arrows aerial display team and much more on Saturday, June 4, at Victoria Park.

He said: “After reading numerous Facebook posts on the subject and realising just how much money was going to be required to support this massive free event for the townsfolk of Arbroath and surrounding burghs, I chose to offer some of my time to help raise some of the much needed funds.”

With the help of the owners at Chalmers Cinema, formerly Bally’s, and Barry Sellar’s at Astute, Malcolm, on May 14, will be turning the venue back into the club everyone in Angus remembers from the 1990s.

He continued: “There’s quite a buzz about this event on social media and a fair bit of chat being generated on the streets of Arbroath. I’m ever optimist and I’d love to see Bally’s being filled to capacity on the May 14. With over 200 tickets sold already, we’re a quarter of the way there and I hope that with this article, I can generate another few hundred ticket sales to help make this a superbly exciting fundraising event a night to remember for years to come.”

Tickets are £8 and are available from the Fobel Shop, Carnoustie; Chalmers Cinema; Specsavers in Arbroath, Montrose and Forfar; and Sweets ‘n’ Treats, Brechin.

Due to the specific nature of licensing laws in order to cater adequately for demand it is important that tickets are bought before May 7.
