Ban on public drinking

ANGUS Council has published byelaws as their next step towards a ban on drinking in public places in the seven Angus burghs.

The byelaws were recently approved by Angus Council but will not come into force until they have been confirmed by the Scottish Ministers.

A copy of the byelaws, which includes plans showing the extent of the affected areas, may be examined during normal business hours at the Access Offices and public libraries in Arbroath, Brechin, Carnoustie, Forfar, Kirriemuir, Monifieth and Montrose, at Angus House, Orchardbank Business, Forfar and on the Have Your Say section of council’s website at

The byelaws are to be advertised and anyone who wishes to object to them can write to the Scottish Ministers, Criminal Justice and Sentencing Branch, Law Reform Division, The Scottish Government, Floor 2W, St Andrew’s House, Regent Road, Edinburgh, EH1 3DG by August 12 stating their name and address, the matters to which the objection relates and the grounds on which it is made.
