Bands tuning up for Forfar’s first festival of music

THE first Forfarfest music weekend takes place from Friday, June 1 to Sunday, June 3, featuring an incredible line up of live acts.

The event has come together from the regular meetings of Forfar’s publicans for the Pubwatch initiative, approaching the cream of local musicians and contacting bands from further afield to bring together a weekend of 51 acts in venues throughout the town.

There is a wide variety of music styles on offer, from acoustic singer/songwriters and a ceilidh to hard rocking original and cover bands and blues acts.

The event is the first of its kind in the town and will feature live music in Bar Central, Chapter & Verse, D8 Nightclub and Bar, Masons, Osnaburg, The Plough, Queen Street, Thistle, Troopers and Vine & Monkey.

Top acts to look out for are Dr. Bendix, the top blues band flying in from Norway, in D8 Club & Bar, Friday 9pm to midnight; folk favourites Bill Carr & Peter Dick – Queen Street. Friday 8-11pm; Cherry Bombz – Osnaburg, Saturday 2-5pm - hard rocking with female vocalist; London based funk rock band The Council – Bar Central, Saturday 7-9pm and the Perth based all-girl trio Mama’s Baby – Vine & Monkey, Sunday 4-7pm.

Full details of the weekend line-up are available from the Facebook page (ForfarFiestra) and on the new website forfarmusic.co.uk

The festival is being co-ordinated by Ian Whyte of The Plough.

Ian said: “The Internationally famous Blues Bonanza started with six bands in six pubs, so everyone has to start somewhere!

“We are putting together a varied programme and there should be something for everybody.”
