Body found in search for missing marine

Police Scotland can confirm that a body has been found as part of searches to trace an Arbroath marine missing in Glen Doll.

20-year-old Luke Ireland, a serving Royal Marine with 45 Commando, was reported missing yesterday afternoon (Thursday).

The body was discovered in the Glen Clova area shortly after 1 p.m. today (Friday).

Formal identification of the body is yet to take place however Mr Ireland’s family have been made aware of the developments.

Around 240 Royal Marines, civilian search and rescue teams from Braemar and Tayside and Royal Air Force mountain rescue teams were assisting Police Scotland Search and Rescue and dog units to trace him.

Mr Ireland was last seen at around 12.30 p.m. yesterday afternoon as he prepared to go for a run in the area near Loch Brandy, Glen Doll.
