LOCAL people are being warned to be on their guard after two bogus workmen targeted a 93-year-old woman in Montrose on Wednesday.
The incident happened in the Mid Links area at around 11.30am when the men called at the woman’s home claiming they had previously carried out work to her property and were asking for payment. Fully aware that no work had been carried the woman refused to pay and the men left empty-handed.
Warning residents to be watchful, Constable Tracy Brown said: “Everyone should be on their guard against this type of crime, especially if they have elderly or vulnerable neighbours.
“Your guard can often drop when you are within your home. Bogus workmen and fraudulent sales people know this and can take advantage of your more relaxed state to either steal from your home or persuade you to hand over money for work which will either never be completed or be done to a very poor standard.”
Anyone with information regarding this incident or who has information about bogus callers or workmen should contact Tayside Police on 0300 111 2222.
