THE BEST produce on offer in Angus is being showcased for the first time with the publication of a new Angus Food Producers Booklet.
Launched at the Dundee Flower and Food Festival at the weekend, the publication provides a wealth of information about quality local producers for consumers as well caterers, restaurants accommodation providers and retailers. It aims to promote more use of local producers.
Food and drink is a significant part of the local economy and is a key strand of Angus Council’s tourism strategy, A Sustainable Strategy for Growth through Tourism. The authority has been working with local businesses, supporting the establishment of a Food & Drink industry group.
Infrastructure services vice-convener Councillor David Fairweather said: “Angus is well known for its agriculture and it has some of the finest produce in the country – from beef and soft fruits to the iconic Arbroath Smokie and Forfar Bridie.
“When that is complemented by excellent producers, restaurants and retailers, as it is in Angus, it creates a really strong product. People have never been more interested in the provenance of food, and its links with the local area, and this new booklet gives them all the information they need to know about the quality and variety that’s on offer in Angus.”
