A MONTROSE apprentice was among some of the best in his trade to make it to the North of Scotland regional heat of the Apprentice of the Year competition
Thomas Duggan (20), who works with Redwood Refrigeration, was one of only two from the county to represent Angus College in the competition run by the Scottish Electrical Charitable Training Trust.
There were 16 entries from first and second stage apprentices from colleges and training institutions across the north of Scotland. All were selected for the day-long event which included both practical and theoretical assessments.
In line with competence based assessment in the Electrical SVQ, SECTT is continuing to promote training and excellence in the Electrical Contracting industry by organising Apprentice of the Year competitions.
The winners from the heat hosted at the college will go on to represent the North in the national heat later this year in Edinburgh.
Kevin Murphy, the college’s director of learning and teaching, said: “Angus College was pleased to be able to host this event and I would like to thank all the staff who worked to make the day a success. This competition reinforces the value of apprenticeships for both employers and training institutions.”
