A long-established Montrose company has expanded with the launch of a range of consumer-friendly bags and luggage.
Montrose Rope & Sail, a family run business, has used 200 years of experience designing and manufacturing some of the highest spec kit bags on the market to launch The Montrose Bag Company.
Building on four generations of heritage and experience, it has developed a range of consumer-friendly bags and luggage, all made by hand in their workshop in Montrose.
Founded in 1789, Montrose Rope & Sail served the flourishing local fishing industry manufacturing ropes and hand-sewn sails; in recent years it developed a reputation for supplying kit bags that can withstand the harsh conditions of the North Sea, to the oil and gas industry.
Using the same skilled craftsmanship, tried and tested materials and passion for perfection, the eye-catching product lines are made from 100 per cent waterproof PVC, tapping into the trend for creating fashion accessories using industrial materials.
Rudi Wyper, general manager, of Montrose Bag Company, said: “Over the last 40 years countless offshore workers have come to depend on us for specialised kit bags and backpacks that are durable, versatile and reliable. However, time and time again we’ve been asked to make our unique range available to the wider public.
“This demand led us to invest in technology at the forefront of textile manufacturing allowing us to create a more consumer led range where the quality and durability we’re known for is matched by the slick design of our products, that can be used in everyday life.”
The current range includes shoppers, backpacks, holdalls and messenger bags, and for those looking for something more specific a bespoke bag service, creating tailor made luggage is available.
Rudi continued: “The feedback we’ve received from customers is that our bags not only look impressive but that they are so adaptable for everyday life.
“From swimming trips with the kids and camping to round the world travels, they cope with anything.
“The bespoke service is something that has resonated with the sporting community as we can develop any size and shape of bag that meets exacting requirements whether that be for a fishermen, a swimming club or snow sports enthusiasts, for example.”
The company’s ethos of ‘made-to-measure and built to last’ sees bold colours and clean lines feature heavily on the all-weather bags that continue to meet the industry standard of the offshore workforce.
The new Montrose Bag Company website showcases the entire range allowing consumers to see the various style and colour options on offer.
