ANGUS Council is to launch a new scheme to encourage business start up and employment in the county.
The Council’s Infra-structure Services Comm-ittee has agreed cash of £42,500 to launch an Angus Employment Grants scheme in 2012/13.
The scheme is designed to address three issues – business creation, employment, and youth employment, with various levels of funding available.
The committee heard it aims to contribute to the creation of 40 new start up businesses; support 20 existing sole trader businesses become employers; to improve local employment opportunities for a total of 80 people; and assist 10 individuals from the 18-24 age group to access mainstream employment.
The Towards Employment Team is on course to meet its targets for this year. From April to September it assisted 84 clients into employment, and six into self employment.
A further 40 entered a voluntary activity, and 53 entered training, further or higher education.
