Greggs opened its first store in Montrose this week creating eight jobs for local people. The new shop, located at 33-35 High Street, was expected to open last week but this was delayed due to a window problem.

Lesley Christie, area manager, said: “We’re really excited to be opening the first shop in Montrose, bringing our famous, freshly-baked products to the local community.

“With ‘hover seating’ it is the ideal location for a catch up with friends and for grabbing a bite to eat while in town.

“Customers can also make use of the free WiFi available in the shop.

“We’re all really looking forward to welcoming customers in.”

On the opening morning the store was already experiencing a steady stream of customers. Earlier in the week many people managed to gain some free Greggs, due to a day-early delivery before the store was due to open.

Greggs offer a large selection of food including bacon rolls, savouries, award-winning sandwiches and Fairtrade coffee.

The new Montrose store is part of a large expansion by Greggs which aims to add 600 stores to the 1,600 it already has in the UK. The new shop is the 227th to be located in Scotland.

The Montrose store is open, Monday to Saturday from 8.30am to 5pm, and Sunday 11am-4pm.
